Why learn here
A German university may want TestDaF or DSH. A hospital wants telc B2 Pflege. A spouse visa wants Goethe A1 specifically. Candidates lose months preparing for a certificate their institution does not accept, so the first conversation is about the requirement.
Nominative, accusative, dative and genitive are the thing English speakers stall on. Learning the table is not the same as producing the right ending under time pressure, so lessons drill cases inside real sentences from the beginning.
Every Goethe and telc speaking module has published criteria and a fixed structure. You practise the actual tasks, timed, and get feedback in the examiner's terms rather than a general sense of how it went.
Nurses and doctors need handover language, patient communication and documentation, not the vocabulary of a general B2 course. The Pflege track is taught separately because the requirement is genuinely different.
Levels we teach
German is spoken by about 135 million people. These are the CEFR levels we teach it at, and what each one actually lets you do.
Goethe-Zertifikat A1 standard
Introductions, numbers, daily routine, and the present tense. This is the level German spouse-visa applicants are asked to certify.
Everyday independence
Shopping, appointments, travel and past tense. Enough to manage ordinary errands without switching to English halfway through.
The settlement threshold
Connected speech about familiar topics, a structured written text, and the level most residence and integration requirements reference.
Work and professional registration
Argument, abstraction and workplace correspondence. This is the bar for nursing authorisation and most German-speaking jobs.
University and senior professional use
Academic reading, extended writing and the register a German-taught degree or a leadership role assumes.
Specialist courses
Nurses and care staff seeking recognition of their qualification in Germany, and health professionals already in post who need to work more confidently in German.
Applicants for a family reunion or spouse visa to Germany who need a documented A1, and their partners trying to work out what the requirement actually asks for.
Professionals working in or with German-speaking companies who have roughly B1 or above and need to operate credibly rather than merely be understood.

It depends entirely on who is asking. German missions abroad normally require Goethe for spouse-visa A1. Hospitals and nursing regulators usually specify telc B2 Pflege. Universities want TestDaF or DSH for degree entry. All three are recognised, but they are not interchangeable, and the institution decides. Send us the requirement in writing and we will tell you which course to take.
Roughly 350 to 400 classroom hours from zero, per the Goethe-Institut's own guidance, which works out at about a year of two lessons a week with homework in between. People already living in Germany usually move faster. If you have studied a Latin or Germanic language before, the vocabulary comes easier but the case system still takes the same work.
Yes, and it is a separate course from general B2. The exam tests clinical communication — taking a handover, explaining a procedure to a patient, documenting care, and speaking to colleagues under time pressure. The general vocabulary of a B2 course does not cover it, and candidates who prepare with general materials tend to fail the speaking module.
Yes, and it is one of the most common reasons people start. The A1 requirement is narrow and well-defined, so a focused course is usually eight to twelve weeks rather than a year. We teach the exact Goethe A1 format, including the parts applicants routinely underestimate, which are the listening section and the short written message.
Some are, and some are certified non-native teachers who have passed C2 and hold a teaching qualification. For exam preparation, a tutor who has taught the exam repeatedly is usually more useful than a native speaker who has not. Every tutor's qualifications and the body that issued them are listed on their profile so you can judge for yourself.
Who teaches you
No tutor profile is published for German yet. We will not put up a card with a stock photograph and a first name — if you are going to hand someone your Tuesday evenings, you should be able to see their name, their face and the body that issued their qualification.
