Spanish is not one language — pick the one you need

Every variety below is taught by someone who speaks it. If you are not sure which applies to you, say where you are going and we will tell you.

Pick the rung you are actually aiming at

Each exam below has its own page, its own format and its own way of failing candidates. Start from the certificate your employer, university or visa office named — not from the level you feel you are at.

Why learn here

What you get that a marketplace will not give you

The variety is a choice, and we ask

Vosotros and the distinción of Spain, or ustedes and seseo across Latin America. A learner heading to Mexico City taught by a tutor from Madrid will be understood, and will also sound slightly odd. Tell us where you are going and we match the accent.

The subjunctive taught early, not deferred

Courses that postpone the subjunctive leave learners unable to express doubt, wish or opinion until intermediate level, which is exactly when they need it. It arrives gradually from A2 in real sentences instead of arriving all at once as a rule.

Medical Spanish where it matters

Clinicians in the United States need to take a history, explain a diagnosis and obtain consent in Spanish. That is specific vocabulary and specific phrasing, not a general conversation course with a medical unit bolted on.

We are honest about where we can compete

Spanish is the most crowded market in language tutoring. If all you want is unstructured conversation practice at the lowest price, a marketplace will beat us. If you need an exam band, a clinical vocabulary or a specific regional variety, that is where we are better.

Levels we teach

From the first lesson to working in Spanish

Spanish is spoken by about 500 million people. These are the CEFR levels we teach it at, and what each one actually lets you do.

A1

First contact

Introductions, present tense, ser and estar, and pronunciation that is genuinely regular once the rules are shown.

A2

Everyday Spanish

Past tenses, travel, food, directions and description. Enough to handle a trip without falling back on English.

B1

DELE B1 standard

Opinion, narration, the subjunctive in common use, and following speech at natural speed.

B2

DELE B2 and working use

Argument, abstraction, professional correspondence, and the level Spanish universities and most employers ask for.

C1

Academic and professional fluency

Extended writing, source synthesis, and register control across formal and informal settings.

Spanish questions, answered properly

Should I learn Castilian or Latin American Spanish?

Learn the one you will use. They are mutually intelligible everywhere, so this is not a question of being understood — it is a question of sounding like you belong. Spain uses vosotros and distinguishes the c and z sounds; most of Latin America uses ustedes and does not. Vocabulary differs for everyday things like cars, computers and food. Your tutor will point out the differences either way.

What is the difference between DELE and SIELE?

DELE is a permanent diploma from the Instituto Cervantes, taken at a fixed CEFR level, pass or fail, with limited sitting dates. SIELE is a multilevel online test that returns a score across the CEFR range, is available on demand at many centres, and expires after five years. DELE carries more weight for permanent recognition; SIELE is faster to arrange and useful when you need a result quickly.

Do you teach medical Spanish for healthcare workers?

Yes, as a distinct course. It covers history taking, symptom description in patient language, explaining diagnosis and treatment, consent, and the register shifts between speaking to a patient and speaking to a colleague. It assumes roughly A2 to B1 general Spanish to begin, because clinical vocabulary on top of no grammar does not produce a usable consultation.

How long does it take to learn Spanish?

Spanish is among the fastest languages for English speakers — the US Foreign Service Institute puts professional working proficiency at around 600 to 750 hours. Two lessons a week with homework typically reaches a comfortable B1 in about a year. The subjunctive and the past tenses are the two places most learners slow down.

Can I just practise conversation without a syllabus?

Yes, and for some learners that is exactly right — usually people who already have B1 or above and need fluency and confidence rather than new grammar. It works best with a tutor who corrects deliberately and keeps notes between sessions, rather than one who simply chats. Say in the trial lesson that this is what you want.

Who teaches you

Your Spanish tutor

No tutor profile is published for Spanish yet. We will not put up a card with a stock photograph and a first name — if you are going to hand someone your Tuesday evenings, you should be able to see their name, their face and the body that issued their qualification.

Lessons are running. Message us on WhatsApp and we will tell you who is currently teaching Spanish, what they are qualified in, and when they are free. You will find a Spanish tutor listed here as soon as their paperwork is verified.
