French · Exam preparation
Tef canada preparation online, aimed at the CLB band your points need
For an Express Entry candidate, French is a scoring instrument. The gap between CLB 7 and CLB 9 is worth more points than most applicants realise, and it is a specific, teachable gap.

Who this is for
Is this the right course for you?
Express Entry and Quebec immigration candidates, and anyone who needs a French band score for a Canadian application with a deadline.
What you cover
Inside the TEF Canada course
- The four sections and how raw scores convert to CLB levels
- Which band your profile actually needs, worked out before lesson planning
- Expression écrite: the two tasks and what the markers reward
- Expression orale: both sections, timed, with recorded review
- Compréhension orale and écrite under exam timing
- Two full timed mock papers with band-level feedback
TEF Canada is a proficiency test rather than a diploma, and for most candidates it is a points exercise attached to an immigration application.
Work out the target band first
The right amount of preparation depends entirely on which CLB level changes your score. That calculation comes before any lesson planning, because a candidate who needs CLB 7 and a candidate chasing CLB 9 should be doing different work.
Speaking and writing carry the risk
Comprehension sections tend to be the more predictable half. The two production sections are where bands are won and lost, and they are practised here on the clock with recorded review.
TEF Canada questions, answered properly
How many Express Entry points is French worth?
It depends on your whole profile, so use the official IRCC calculator rather than an estimate from a language school. Broadly, French at CLB 7 or above adds meaningful points to the comprehensive ranking score, with additional points for French-speaking candidates and category-based draws that target them. The CLB 7 to CLB 9 step is usually the one worth the extra study.
Should I take TEF Canada or TCF Canada?
Both are accepted by IRCC and both convert to CLB. The honest deciding factors are sitting availability near you and which format suits you after seeing a past paper of each. TEF tends to have more frequent sessions in many countries. Check the test centre calendar first — the exam you can actually sit before your deadline is the right one.
How long does it take to reach CLB 7 in French?
From zero, roughly 600 to 750 hours, or around two years at two lessons a week. From a solid B1, three to six months of targeted preparation is common. Candidates preparing for a band rather than for general fluency usually move faster, because the target is narrow and the practice can be precisely aimed.
