Dalf c1 preparation online, centred on the synthèse nobody prepares for

DALF C1 asks you to read several source texts and write a single coherent synthesis of them. That is an academic skill, and it is where most candidates lose the paper.

Who this is for

Is this the right course for you?

Applicants to competitive French programmes, professionals in senior or regulated roles, and candidates who hold B2 and need the next permanent diploma.

What you cover

Inside the DALF C1 course

  • The C1 structure, and how synthesis and essay are weighted
  • The synthèse: reading several sources and reconciling them in one text
  • Extended argumentative writing with register control
  • The oral presentation and the discussion that follows it
  • Listening to long-form radio, lectures and debate without support
  • Two full timed mock papers with detailed written feedback

DALF C1 is the advanced French diploma, and it is more of an academic examination than a language test. Candidates who reach it usually speak good French already; what they need is technique.

The synthèse

Several source documents, one coherent text, no personal opinion. It is a French academic convention with strict expectations about structure and neutrality, and almost nobody arrives knowing how to do it. It gets a disproportionate share of lesson time here for that reason.

Reading volume

Like every C1, this exam rewards input. Candidates who read French non-fiction consistently pass; candidates who rely on lesson material alone tend to sit just below the line.

DALF C1 questions, answered properly

What makes DALF C1 harder than DELF B2?

Mostly the synthèse. You are given several texts on a theme and asked to produce one coherent piece that reflects all of them without inserting your own opinion. It is an academic skill that many candidates have never been taught in any language, and it is worth a large share of the written mark.

How long does DALF C1 preparation take?

From a solid B2, nine to eighteen months of consistent work. The gap is range, precision and reading speed rather than new grammar. Candidates who read French journalism and non-fiction regularly between lessons progress considerably faster than those working only from lesson material.

Is DALF C1 useful outside France?

Yes. It is issued by the French Ministry of Education, never expires, and is recognised internationally by universities and employers as evidence of advanced French. For Canadian immigration purposes, though, TEF or TCF is normally what is required, because those return the band scores the points system uses.
