Norskprove a2 exam preparation with a tutor who marks your work

Norskprøve A2 is the first sitting most candidates take, and the written section is where otherwise capable people lose it. Lessons are built around past papers and correction.

Who this is for

Is this the right course for you?

Candidates who need a documented A2 in Norwegian for a residency application or an employer, and learners who want a checkpoint before attempting B1.

What you cover

Inside the Norskprøve A2 course

  • The four parts of the exam and how each one is scored
  • Listening practice at exam speed, with the distractors explained
  • Written production: the short texts the exam actually asks for
  • The oral test, rehearsed with an unprepared partner rather than a script
  • Vocabulary for housing, work, health and transport
  • Two full timed mock papers with written feedback

Norskprøve is the state Norwegian test, run by Kompetanse Norge, and it is sat at three combinations of levels: A1–A2, A2–B1 and B1–B2. This course prepares the A2 outcome.

How preparation actually works

There is no secret to this exam. It has a published format, published criteria and a large body of past papers. What most candidates lack is someone to mark their written work honestly and to run the oral test as an unscripted conversation rather than a rehearsal.

What we do differently from a general course

A general A2 course teaches Norwegian to an A2 standard. This course teaches the exam: the text types, the timing, the listening distractors, and the specific ways candidates lose marks. If you also need general Norwegian, take both — but do not assume one delivers the other.

Norskprøve A2 questions, answered properly

What level is Norskprøve A2 and who needs it?

A2 is elementary proficiency — everyday exchanges on familiar topics. Some Norwegian residency routes and some employers ask for it, and requirements differ by age and application type. Check the current rule with UDI before booking a sitting, because the thresholds have changed before and the exam fee is not refundable.

How long does it take to prepare for Norskprøve A2?

From a genuine A1, most candidates need three to five months at two lessons a week with homework in between. From zero, expect eight to twelve months. People living in Norway typically move faster because they are hearing and using the language between lessons, which counts for more than lesson volume.

Which part of the exam do candidates most often fail?

Written production, consistently. Candidates who can hold a conversation comfortably still lose marks on structure, connectors and the specific text types the exam asks for. It is also the most improvable part, because it responds directly to writing something, having it marked against the published criteria, and rewriting it.
